Terracotta & Teak Living

One warm room from the front door to the kitchen window. The blue end wall becomes terracotta limewash, a fluted teak TV wall faces the sofa in the front half, dining for four sits under a rattan pendant, and the old granite slab kitchen turns into a sage L with quartz and zellige. The main door opens into the middle of the room, with a clear path straight across to the bedroom and office.

Order of work

  1. Week 1Strip the old kitchen slab and tiles, remove tube lights and old boards. Chase wiring for the TV wall, kitchen and AC. Order the kitchen, sofa and dining set; factory pieces take 2–3 weeks.
  2. Week 2Frame the ceiling band, plaster where the slab came out, fix the zellige splashback and the wash-area tiles.
  3. Week 3Board the ceiling and form the cove. Putty and prime all walls.
  4. Week 4Paint, then limewash the window wall. Polish the marble. Fit the fluted panel and console.
  5. Week 5Install the kitchen carcasses, quartz top, sink, hob and chimney. Fit the wash vanity.
  6. Week 6Lights, switches, AC and fans. Laminate the doors, hang the blind, bring in the sofa and dining set and style the room.

Room sizes are estimates from your photos and video, with the ceiling at 10 ft (3.05 m) as given. Measure on site before ordering anything made to size, the kitchen above all.

The marble floor in the model is the flat's real floor, taken from the bedroom scan. Wood, linen, bouclé, hessian and plaster textures are CC0 scans from Poly Haven.

The photos are path-traced in Blender Cycles. The sofa, coffee table, dining chairs, print, plant, vases and bowl are CC0 models from Poly Haven, recoloured to the palette.

In the 3D model the light is baked from the same path tracer as the photos: sun patches, soft shadows, bounce light by day and lamp pools by evening.
